A-Flex provides flow-based pressure relief at the beginning of exhalation and softens the pressure transition from inhalation to exhalation to provide additional comfort. With the auto algorithm intelligence, it will respond to the patient’s therapeutic need throughout the sleep session. System One Humidity Control technology analyzes ambient temperature, relative humidity and patient flow to maintain consistent and optimum humidity levels - even in changing conditions. The Heated Tube humidifier delivers a higher rate of humidity to patients. The REMstar Auto A-Flex is used to treat Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

A-Flex is designed to work with our clinically proven auto CPAP algorithm to improve comfort even more by matching pressure delivery to the patient’s entire breathing
cycle. A-Flex provides flow-based pressure relief at the beginning of exhalation and softens the pressure transition from inhalation to exhalation to provide additional comfort in an auto-CPAP mode. The pressure profile mirrors the patient’s breathing. The REMstar Auto A-Flex has 10 different therapies: CPAP, CPAP with C-Flex, CPAP with C-Flex+, Auto-CPAP, Auto-CPAP with C-Flex and Auto-CPAP with A-Flex. The System One REMstar Auto A-Flex is used to treat Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
System One Humidity Control has been designed to establish optimum patient comfort and device performance. For additional comfort, System One now has improved absolute humidity and target relative humidity levels across all humidifier dial settings. In addition, a new “classic” mode provides the ability to shut off humidity control. Even in changing environmental conditions, consistent humidification levels are preserved throughout each night. System One closely monitors room temperature, room humidity, and flow to determine what is required to maintain the patient-selected humidity level. By controlling relative humidity output at the mask, rainout can be prevented, under most circumstances.
Through a combination of our cleverly-designed water chamber plus the advanced Dry Box design, the risk of water ingress into the device is virtually eliminated. Even when fully filled, to the fill line, the water chamber can be tilted or turned upside-down without leaking back into the device. Should any water manage to escape the chamber, the Dry Box prevents it from entering the device.
The System One device incorporates a room temperature and humidity sensor with a temperature sensor at the end of the Heated Tube to deliver the selected level of humidity to the patient while providing protection against rainout. As a result, higher levels of humidity can be achieved for patients who could benefit from humidification.
Digital Auto-Track Sensitivity is the brains behind all Flex Family pressure relief technologies. Digital Auto-Trak is a highly sensitive algorithm that tracks each breath and detects the onset of inspiration and expiration – even in the presence of mask leak. It then responds by triggering the machine to provide an adaptive pressure relief right when the patient needs it. Delivering the right level of pressure relief when patients need it makes therapy more natural – and more comfortable.
Auto Algorithm
The Auto Algorithm manages events at the early stages rather than waiting for it to occur. It does this by looking for small degrees of flow limitations usually present before an onset of complete obstruction or apnea, this algorithm is designed to proactively seek out these early indications and adjust pressure to resolve an event before it occurs.
Proactive Performance
A REMstar auto algorithm can determine optimal therapy level by proactively performing two types of tests, not only maintain pressure at a level in which obstruction is unlikely to occur, it also ensures that the pressure never becomes unnecessarily high.
Leak Management
REMstar Auto algorithm compares the measured patient leak rate to an expected amount of leak from the mask. If a large leak is detected, the technology compensates by decreasing pressure in an attempt to re-seal the mask to the patients face. This is safer for the patient and helps provide uninterrupted sleep.
Obstructive Apnea
Baseline of the patient flow based on moving flow signal window. REMstar Auto detects an apnea as 80% reduction in flow lasting at least 10 seconds.
Hypopnea
Baseline of the patient flow based on moving flow signal window. REMstar Auto detects an apnea as 40% reduction in flow lasting at least 10 seconds followed by a recovery breath.
Flow Limitation
Analyzes changes in flatness, roundness, peak and shape.
Snore
Capability to detect snoring vibrations and adjust pressure accordingly.
Non-Responsive Apnea/Hypopnea (NRAH)
The Auto algorithm identifies when patients do not respond to pressure increases triggered by apneas and hypopneas. If persistent string occurs the device activates Non-Responsive Apnea/Hypopnea logic which limits pressure increases. If the patient continues to have events, REMstar Auto will lower the pressure and hold pressure to stabilize the airway. The Auto algorithm also detects events that may be obstructive such as snoring or hypopneas with flow-limited breaths, the REMstar Auto will temporarily override NRAH logic and increase pressure until events are resolved.
SmartRamp
Highly sensitive patients may have difficulty falling asleep, even at a minimum therapy level. Philips Respironics solution is the proprietary SmartRamp feature. With the press of a button, patients can now manage the linear increase from the minimum ramp pressure to the minimum therapy pressure. Giving patients the ability to customize their own ramp time significantly enhances comfort. If the patient falls asleep during this ramp time and events do occur, the algorithm will treat the events and continue to ramp up at the same rate, establishing the therapeutic minimum auto pressure faster.
